New and Classic Ornamentals for Eastern Landscapes At Pleasant Run Nursery we are constantly searching for new options for quality, function and beauty. We also emphasize the strengths of older “work horses” which may have disappeared from the current palette. Part of our focus is also devoted to garden-worthy natives to achieve more sustainable landscapes through proper plant selection. We trial many of the new cultivars being introduced into the market place to determine which are definite improvements on earlier selections, and which are “the same old song” under a new name.
Heidi, a 4th generation nurserywoman, cofounded Pleasant Run Nursery with her husband Richard Hesselein in 1998, with the goal of growing rare, new and unusual woodies, perennials, grasses, ferns and groundcovers. Production of landscape-worthy native plants is a particularly important part of their production goal. Their years of nursery experience in California and at Princeton Nurseries have enabled them to expand the production to 1000 species to date. Heidi lectures at trade shows, garden clubs and botanical gardens.
