One unique feature of the SNA Research Conference is the Bryson L. James Student Research Competition, an opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to present their latest research results, hone their communication skills and compete for cash awards. These students historically demonstrate strong academic and research ability and move forward in the industry to make outstanding contributions.

The competition is named for Dr. Bryson L. James who not only served as Director of Horticultural Research for the Southern Nursery Association, coordinator of the conference and editor of the Annual Proceedings for 37 years, but was active in the SNA Research Conference for nearly 50 years. Dr. James passed away in 2017, and we are not only grateful for his many years of service to the SNA, but we are grateful that we can continue to honor him through this important research competition. The competition is funded by Bennett's Creek Nursery and Lancaster Farms.

And, new this year, students participating in the Bryson L. James Student Research Competition can apply for a travel grant and receive $300 toward their travel costs, based upon available funds. Learn more below.
